Beacon Athletics: Fence Caps & Windscreens
They're like icing on the fence.
You've got the fence, now you just need the finishing touch. Nothing completes a facility like a well-trimmed fence with fence cap and windscreen. But that polish is more than just aesthetically pleasing, it can also improve playability as a clean visual backdrop for batters and provide privacy.
With windscreen, proper sizing is critical. It sounds obvious, but all too often windscreens are installed with a poor fit. These windscreens not only look terrible, they are distracting to players and tougher to work around when maintaining your facility. Following a few standard guidelines will ensure your facility will have a great looking windscreen that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but functionally sound. We'll work closely with you to create a custom-fitting windscreen that looks just the way you want it to.
Windscreen general guidelines
- Windscreens must be cut slightly shorter than the actual fence height. This leaves room for the windscreen to be pulled completely taught (as well as room for fence cap), and for easier future maintenance with a weed trimmer or mower without damaging your investment.
- Determine the appropriate material for the conditions (see Material Choice below).
- Always consider wind loads — screens placed on fencing dramatically increases the wind load regardless of the percentage of closure. Proper post sizing and spacing is the best way to ensure your fence will handle the resulting wind load.
- Remove & roll up your windscreen during the off-season to reduce weathering
Woven Polypropylene
Vinyl-coated mesh
Material choice
Woven polypropylene. Perfect for areas with high winds or high UV light exposure. The tight weave makes for an excellent privacy screen. It's the strongest windscreen available, and has classic, if limited, color choices (see colors, left).

Now top it all off.
Like windscreen, a quality fence cap can not only improve the look of a facility, but actually improve playability. A fence trimmed with fence cap is safer for players than exposed fence top, and also helps define field areas. Your foul line is clearly visible as your fence cap transitions starkly from green on foul territory fencing to yellow on fair territory outfield fencing (see yellow-green comparison, left). This pre-slit poly tubing is fully UV-protected and, with orders of 1,000 feet or more, comes with a free Fence Cap Zipper that's specifically designed to make installation a breeze.
