Glossary

Protective Netting

Protective Netting | Any netting used to protect people or property from harm associated with errant objects such as baseballs, lacrosse balls and golf balls. Also referred to as “Safety Netting”.

Barrier Netting

Barrier Netting | Protective netting used to prevent errant balls from traveling between separate adjacent areas or activities.

Partial Net Backstop

Partial Net Backstop | Netting used as an extension or supplement to a chain link backstop to expand protective coverage without incurring the excessive costs of a more permanent structure; the expanded coverage may take the form of a vertical extension, or a more elaborate, but lightweight overhead canopy.

Full Net Backstop

Full Net Backstop | Netting used as a backstop for baseball or softball that comes down to a short fence, knee wall, or curb; support posts may be built in-line with the backstop wall or offset. Also see “Tie-Back Backstop”.

Tie-Back Backstop

Tie-Back Backstop | A full net backstop system that maximizes visibility from the seating area. This backstop style utilizes only four posts; two central posts or attachment points are offset behind the seating area to eliminate potential visual obstructions and ricochet hazards. Also referred to as “Cable-Supported”.

Wind Load Calculation

Wind Load Calculation | A term used to determine the maximum pressure a net, pole or screen will withstand without damage. Calculations for Wind Load often determine the ultimate cost of a project. Many states require certified wind load calculations.

Barrier Netting

Tie-Back Backstop - Warner Park, Madison, WI

Ideal for soccer or multi-sport fields.

Our barrier net systems are designed for easy removal and deployment from ground level — no ladders or lifts required after the initial installation.

Superior quality hoisting blocks and halyards lift the net into place, while the top support cable and our innovative tensioning system easily removes sag.

Just as with our TUFFframe Batting Cages, our Barrier Net Systems are available with or without galvanized steel uprights. To fit your space perfectly, contact us for customized netting system configurations. Ground sleeves, plugs, and aluminum uprights are available upon request.

Avoid costly mistakes by knowing the wind speed rating before buying your net system. We can help.

Beacon Nets: Custom Design and Proper Materials

We design net systems to best fit your application. Our materials include fully UV treated nylon, Dyneema® multifilament poly (MFP), and high tenacity polypropylene — knotted or knotless with mesh construction ranging from 1/2″ to 4″, and tensile strength up to 720 lbs. Available in black, white, or green. Fire retardant mesh is available for indoor use.

We often recommend finishing panels with vinyl-reinforced hems and borders to add strength and maintain shape. Brass grommets are used to carry and distribute loads evenly. Sewn or hand-tied rope borders are also used in some applications.

Form engineering-to drawings-to completion, we’ll make sure it’s done right and within budget.

Full & Partial Net Backstops

Tie-Back Backstop - Warner Park, Madison, WI

Entrenched stability.

Our Project Services Group will design your backstop around your needs and to your specifications. With Full Net and Partial Net Backstops you can take your facility up a notch and bring better sight lines and more safety to your spectators.

Full Net Backstops are a great way to protect people and property from errant balls and offers a professional finish to your ball park.

Partial Net Backstops combine an extended net panel with an existing chainlink backstop for added protection. We have designed canopy systems, added wings to extend protection down the foul lines, or simply added height to an existing backstop.

The benefits of a Full or Partial Net Backstop include:

  • ECONOMICAL Compared to large chainlink backstops, that can be very expensive.
  • LARGE SPAN CAPABILITY Reduce obstructed views that are common with other backstop options.
  • SEASONAL or PERMANENT Raise or lower the netting easily from the ground for seasonal removal or leave it up permanently.
  • CUSTOM SIZES AND SHAPES We can design extensions or additions for your existing backstops and partial walls.

Unobstructed perfection.

Over the years we’ve developed an expertise in the design & fabrication of Tie-Back Backstop Systems. These professional looking systems replace chain link fence-based backstops moving the poles behind spectators to provide an unobstructed and safe view of the game.

The top support cable can be tensioned by cables run to poles located behind the backstop or to a press box or other existing structure. This system can also be configured for easy raising and lowering from the ground.

A selection of net materials guarantees cost effective performance whether installed on a Little League field or in a Major League stadium. Bring unobstructed perfection to your fields.

The benefits of a Tie-Back Backstop include:

  • FEWER POLES Minimize installation costs and eliminate ricochet hazards behind home plate.
  • UNOBSTRUCTED Spectators have a safe, clean view of the game.
  • SEASONAL or PERMANENT Raise or lower the netting easily from the ground for seasonal removal or leave it up permanently.
  • ANY LEVEL Size and configure your netting for any level of play.
  • PLANNED INTEGRATION Get the ultimate “pro look” — economically — when you combine a Tie-Back Backstop System with the Beacon Stadium Wall
